I started my love affair with essential oils in 2009, when I was looking for a natural remedy for chafing on Zippy's paws caused by daily show training. I wanted a "natural" product because I figured she will eventually lick whatever I put and I don't want her ingesting anything toxic.
I was able to create my own effective balm (with Zippy as the head sniffer and tester), called it the Pawnacea All-Natural Paw Balm and marketed it to fellow dog lovers. It was a proprietary blend of essential oils, beeswax, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, and other healing ingredients.
The balm was so effective that one of our customers used it on his dog's bald patch and reported that the fur started growing! The balm works best on insect bites and hot spots aside from its original purpose of healing chafed paws and noses.
The balm I made was not just good for dogs. Even people started using it for bites, calloused hands, small burns. We still have leftover stocks from our last batch which my brother swears to be the only "medicine" he uses on his allergies.
I love that other people love that Currently, I am formulating blends for a portable roll-on line for Renegade Sisters, our artisan products. I have sourced more essential oils to add to my growing collection, and it looks like it might need its own shelf soon!
I'm very excited about how this new line will turn out. I've started testing a sleep aid blend and a headache/sinus relief blend which my family already loves. I've enlisted one of my friends as a guinea pig and he's excited as well :)
